What a beautiful interview! What a beautiful soul is she. I mean, i felt at home listening to both of you. You are great bridge-builders and i hope many ppl will feel inspired by this interview. I certainly do. Thank you for sharing with us this interview, Jonny.
Nice read, thanks for sharing, it was very informative. My only concern is that Epistemic injustice is the interrelationship is can have with False Equivelance and False Balance. I don't want to curb freedom of ideas and speech but I dont want to give creedance and puchase to every unsubstatiated idea or concept by giving the appreace of agreement in principle.
Thank you! And good comment. I think epistemic injustice is when you disregard someone's opinion on the basis of irrelevant factors. That doesn't mean there aren't sometimes relevant factors as well - education and life experience, for example.

Good points, However it is a human trait that will never change. The importance of a message is totally dependent of who is delivering it and it changes constantly depending of the time and place. I am talking about time like 2nd WW or today with Instagram, Tik Tok etc. What can change in society is the tendency to vilify anything or anybody that we do not agree with that is so prevalent right now. Society needs people like Elif Shafak to give the people who are not listened to, a voice in the world stage.
There is also, sadly the silence of those who genuinely have no idea what to say or cannot formulate a coherent phrase to express what is in their head. It is the silence of ignorance or perhaps disinterest. Nice article. We should expand it.
Such an important article. I worry that with the continued rise of social media, epistemic injustice will only get worse. I found your example of war particularly striking - mainstream narratives often silence unpopular voices, portraying entire populations as 'the enemy.' Whether it’s Russians facing the consequences of war as well or Israelis struggling in the current conflict, their perspectives risk being overlooked, preventing meaningful discussion that could lead to solutions.
Re: Watership Down comment... was a real surprise to see that, as I had the same reaction and experience with that book in high school. Was an aha moment for me as well.
yes the Epistemic injustice, this I know so well, it comes from fear , not being able to see the whole picture, to recognise this in oneself and have the courage to focus, observe it, face this, heal, transform it so we can create the space for ourselves and for others to grow , appreciate our differences, this allows us to really recognise others and recognise we all deserve a place in life , the Universe .
Silent is yet another kind of silence. Silence of moments in self abnegation, denial of Beyond in impactful experience of rare of the rarest- immersive sound, self witness of immense beauty. In Vedanta, Indian Philosophy moments of Bliss, it's experience in awareness after the Cause and Effect.
Such a wonderful conversation and so much to take away from! I moved to a different country after spending 32 years at 'home'. I married my decade old boyfriend and we now even have a child together. We've got our jobs in place, and everything is on the way of making a new home away from home. Yet many times, I pause, reflect, and compare the then and now life. And it's both beautiful, separate and inter-connected in many ways. It's not the space, but the stories weaved in that space makes a home and I guess after a point, we humans/individuals got be our own homes! Thanks Jonny and Elif :)

Jonny I love your investigation on silence Those pauses of reflecting thoughts in silence clear the room into a two step fandango of self reflection
