At the risk of ringing the bell in my echo chamber, as a Buddhist, I love this.

One of the great gifts that Buddhism, (as well as psychotherapeutic practises like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, ACT) is the ability to view one's thoughts more objectively and to see them as "not I". It can become such a powerful Secret Enemy exactly because we think those thoughts are us. In the busyness of life and under all the pressures that drive ego depletion, the separation falls away. We cease being mindful, think our thoughts are us, become self-preoccupied.

When we are mindful, we can, with compassion, observe our thoughts and see that they are not us. They're just thoughts.

I've also added 'Love Your Enemies' to my reading list. Thank you.
